My work has always been a bit removed from pure realism, sometimes with fanciful interpretations of animal's and human's thoughts, sometimes with a visual element of whimsy. Over time my work has taken on greater abstraction as I allow my state of mind to influence the work, rather than my thoughts alone. This piece belongs squarely in the realm of Abstract Realism.

You know how there are people, surface-pretty, outwardly kind and sweet . . .hiding their true selves. Surreptitious vipers, they manipulate and gaslight, sometimes for fun, sometimes for profit, stealing or conning money from friends and family.
In this painting, Sweet Melissa's tormented souls were created from cotton, ink, shoe polish, spray varnish, plus acrylic on canvas.

Early in 2023 several of what may have been Chinese Spy Balloons were spotted over Canada and the United States . . . naturally, dark corners of the internet spawned conspiracy theories. This piece is my tongue-in-cheek response.
